We attended a public gymboree class and attended a friend's private birthday party and in both instances we found the programming rigid and not age appropriate.
Specifically, my 1 year old (and myself) were told he had to participate in the highly structured games led by the instructor and was not allowed to play with the other equipment or balls while the instructor led the games.
The games consisted of climbing on equipment, making believe it was a train, sitting on it in a row (like a train) and singing along. This was all to take place at a 4 feet above the ground on some equipment.
When my 1 year old at the private party didn't participate and played with a ball instead, the instructor took it away and told me she had put the balls away and he could have one during the next game, but only because the next game involved balls and she would give it to him.
Overall, it was a somewhat negative experience. The equipment was great, but the programming and instructor were too rigid to accommodate the varied ages at the private party.

I took both my children to Gymboree for Play and Music. We found the play the perfect place to engage in activities together that helped build their muscles while having fun (especially as tiny ones) They both loved the bubbles and their teachers. Music was fun too in a very intimate setting. We got to know some lovely mommies.

Great for babies and toddlers. We did Gymboree from 8 months to 2.5 years for both of our children. They enjoyed different things there -Jake loved to climb, play balls, jump and slide. Katelyn loved music and dance, soft toys and jumping on my laps. Both loved bubble time! I would recommend Gymboree to anyone with little kids! Lisa, Jake and Katelyn

Gymboree is not a regular playground. It has a great educational and developmental focus. We had been going to Gymboree with both of our children and they had always been looking forward to that.
Our daughter is 5 now and she has fond memories of her 2nd birthday party hosted at Gymboree. Highly recommended.
