Do no sign up for Hockey 101, August 23, 2010
By K. O'Brien
I wish I had read the reviews before signing up my son for a Hockey 101 camp. I had trouble getting my son started in the camp on day one. When I questioned the the camp's lack of organization and lack of confidence in the association) Alan Ioi's behaviour was completely unacceptable. I had to immediately pull my son who was only 7 and near tears. I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH THAT I WOULD RECOMMEND THAT YOU NEVER USE THIS COMPANY FOR ANY CAMPS.
Decent instructors terribly run, December 20, 2009
By Thom
Registered for a group lesson on a Tuesday before it started on a saturday. Supposed to be a 50 minute class. Was not told that it would be on a 1/2hr class and starting 40 mins later than orginally scheduled. So had to wait almost 1hr with a fully dressed 6 yr old. You think somone could have called. Next class, changed again, before 3rd class get a call, we are switching to 1/2hr private instruction too few students your new time will be 11:20. I think great show up for our 11:20 class, no one knows about it, someone takes us at 11:40. Final class today, again no one calls to say the time has changed again, show up at 10 past eleven told to wait until 11:30 instructor change again. It is a private lesson, you only have one person to call and say hey the lesson is late cause your instructor is ill.
I would advise anyone to look somewhere else.
Hockey 101 at Mastercard Centre-- Fall 2009, December 6, 2009

My son enjoyed the program but was disappointed to have to wait so long for a team jersey. It was advertised that there would be teams and team jerseys. The kids played a good few weeks in their own hockey jerseys which made it confusing for the kids to play a game and parents to watch. I would have thought that they would have used pinnies for the time being until the jerseys arrived but they did not-- surprising.

Otherwise, it is an enjoyable/non-intimidating way to start hockey game play. The coaches and the organizer were friendly. They had a few skating drills before the game. It is also nice that it is just once a week for those that can't put in two days a weeks or more like with a more competitive hockey league.
"Coach Al" and his antics, July 5, 2009
By AK
I agree with what the other concerned person said, Coach Al does NOT know how to handle anything in a business like manner.

I had my son in the summer Hockey 101 program at Lakeshore. "Coach Al" seemed to really not like my kid, he was a bit of a struggler on the ice. He is only 9 years old. Isn't "Coach Al's" job to teach young kids who can't skate very well?

When I talked to "Coach Al" about my sons skills and development, he sort of just brushed me off as if I didn't exist. When your running a business, customers are the number 1 priority, we ARE your business, we ARE giving money to you.

Simply saying "IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, LEAVE!" is not a way to handle something like this, something as easy as talking about my son's skills and development.

This "Coach Al" needs to go back to business school or something and learn how to run a business, and learn about business ethics. You can't just go around calling people mean and harsh names.

I definitely will not be enrolling my son or upcoming daughter into anymore of his 101 programs.\

Good day

My son attended Hockey 101 and it was his first year in Hockey. Our sessions were at Canlan in Oakville and he participated in the program that includes "league play". After 3 weeks and there were no team or jerseys. The "coaching" was not good - the promised skills development was non existent. I called to ask when they kids would get shirts after each week showing up and not getting an answer.

We were promised coaching and skills development. We did not recieve any. We were promised team shirts which never arrived for 1/3 of the "season". My son asked me every week when he would get a shirt and what team he was on - he was 5 at the time. The sessions were not well organized. The "coach" was late twice. They had Mom's/Caregivers helping. Other parents told me they were disappointed as well.

The best part is when I called to speak to them, I got a call from "Coach Al" who said that "if I don't like the program we should leave" and who also called me a few names. My son's Mom had asked some questions about why so few kids were on the ice. The owner complained about her asking questions.

I told him he was out of line, kept my young boy in the program (who was just happy to be out there) and then enrolled him in Timbits at our local league (much better). I was disgusted with this man's attitude and reminded him that he is in a business. I closed by saying if he is going to offer a program that costs more than a season of Timbits, then it should be organized and that the last thing he should do is chew out his customers.
